Hi, I'm Erin

We are all wired with an intense drive for survival. Many of us got remarkably good, very early on, at bracing, shrinking, or performing to stay safe…how wise of our younger selves to figure out how to survive!

Those skills worked then, and thank goodness we had them. We often do, however, carry those skills with us and rely on them in times when we are not under threat. Our wiring convinces us there might be danger, and we get locked into survival patterns and threat responses.

Like you, I know these patterns and how I hold these responses. The ongoing work of loosening my own survival patterns is part of what informs the care I offer. That's why I don't work with just your thoughts. I work with your nervous system too, helping your wiring learn the difference between then and now, so that we can care for the younger, injured parts you carry, while learning skills to respond to the present in a right-sized way.

Why I Do This Work

Early in my career, I noticed that insight alone rarely changed how people actually felt in their bodies. Someone could cognitively understand the “why” of their reaction and still find themselves bracing, shutting down, or spiraling in the same old ways. That gap between understanding and actually feeling different is what drew me to Somatic Experiencing. It is a way of working that goes underneath the story, into the places where change can happen.

Touch deepened that even further. Some of what we carry started before we had words for it, held in the body rather than in any story we could tell. Learning to work with touch, through Kathy Kain's training, gave me another way to reach those places.

I keep doing this work because I get to watch people become more themselves…steadier, more spacious, and more able to trust their own experience.

What You Can Expect

My approach is casual, empathetic, and body-centered. I'm not a therapist who silently nods their head and leaves you in an uneasy, empty space. I also won't overwhelm you with jargon or push you to places you're not ready to go. We stay away from overwhelm...therapeutic work doesn't happen when you're flooded and solely focused on surviving.

Sessions might include talking, tracking what's happening in your body, and, when you’re ready, supportive touch. Nothing happens here without your go-ahead first. You're always the one deciding what we do and when.

We'll work at your pace, focusing on
what feels right for you

Whether we're working through anxious thoughts, processing trauma, or something else entirely, I'm here to collaborate with you, listen to you, and support you. Healing isn't a straight line, but together, we'll figure out the steps and the path that support you best.

My Approach, Training, and Experience

I use an eclectic approach in my practice, pulling from many techniques, modalities, and styles to meet your unique needs. No two people are exactly alike, so therapy can't be one-size-fits-all.

I completed Peter Levine’s Somatic Experiencing training and hold the SEP credential. I am also continuing to deepen that work through Kathy Kain's Touch Skills Training for Trauma Therapists. Both approaches support the body in processing and renegotiating what's stored in the nervous system, not just what's stored in the story.

I'm also trained in Attachment-Focused EMDR, and am certified in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International.
